As you've likely gathered, we here at Volvo of Burlingame have a very special connection with our new and used cars. Through thick and thin, they've always been there for us, and it seems like just yesterday that our love for favorite automaker just started to blossom.
The best part of all? We know we're not alone. So when we recently heard about the milestone that one Irv Gordon passed with his 1966 Volvo P1800, the love just continued to grow.
50 years ago, Mr. Gordon met his P1800. He bought in on a Friday and brought it back on Monday for its 1500-mile service appointment. That's something special right there. With a 125-mile commute to and from work, it only took him 10 years to rack up 500,000 miles behind the wheel. In 1987, he passed the one-million mark while driving the six-mile loop around Central Park in Manhattan.
15 years later, one-million became two-million while cruising through Times Square. And with the 50th anniversary of the original 1961 Volvo P1800 being celebrated this year, Gordon decided he'd clock in his three-millionth mile by traveling up to Alaska, one of the two states he'd never been to. Needless to say, it's been quite the journey.
"It's not about getting to three million miles; it's about the trips that got me to the three million miles," says Gordon. "I never had a goal to get to one million, to two million. I just enjoyed driving and experiencing life through my Volvo."1
So if you'd like to experience the unending joy that comes with driving a Volvo, our lineup awaits you at our dealership here in Burlingame, CA. Or if you'd like to learn how to keep your four-wheeler running like Mr. Gordon's, the experts in our car service department would be happy to fill you in.
