Backtrack. You might be wondering, "How did a 240 ever manage to get up that mountain?" For one thing, this boxy classic was always painfully underpowered, and for another thing, it was rear-wheel drive.
Yet one of the things people loved about this feisty car was that it always seemed to prevail. You need to get up a mountain on a crisp, cold morning? The Volvo 240 wouldn't let you down.
It was, simply stated, one of the most reliable cars ever built. That's why, though no one could deny accusations that it was ugly, boring, and slow, over 2.8 million were produced over the course of 20 years.
