Volvo has boldly declared that by 2020, there will be no deaths or serious injuries inside a Volvo car. It's an ambitious goal, but it's already well on its way to becoming reality.

Since 2000, there has been a 50% reduction in injuries and deaths in new Volvo cars.

This is because of an advancement in active safety features Volvo calls "IntelliSafe." Some IntelliSafe features are basic things, like cornering lights, and daytime running lights to improve visibility.

Some IntelliSafe features are truly remarkable. City Safety can detect pedestrians and cyclists in your path. If a cyclist swerves in front of you, your Volvo can warn you, pre-charge brakes for stopping, and even brake automatically to avoid or mitigate a collision.

Volvo is as concerned with lives outside the car as with lives on the inside. In some countries, an external "Pedestrian Airbag" is available, to mitigate injuries in case of a collision with a pedestrian or cyclist.
