What’s New About the 2022 Volvo XC60?
The 2022 Volvo xc60 uses B5 and B6 powertrains, replacing T5 and T6. The new powertrains use a 48-volt hybrid system.
The Polestar Engineered hybrid T8 powertrain has a better capacity battery that stretches the driving range to 35 miles. Other changes include a new wheel design, a better grille, and an improved front bumper.

B5, B6, and Polestar Engineered T8 are mated with all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission. The base B5 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine spewing 247 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque under the hood.
While the B6 has the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine, it adds a supercharger that throws more horses to reach 295 hp. The plug-in hybrid T8 in recharge models has the same engine as the B6 but blends its electric motors to push out 455 hp.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain is in the Polestar and Recharge models and ranges 35 miles. While you can charge at home using the 110- or 220-volt outlets or the Burlingame public charging station, Volvo has added a feature that uses the energy generated from the gasoline engine to juice up the battery - quite handy.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The FWD B5s should deliver 22/28 MPG in the city and highway based on the EPA estimates. The peppier B6 manages 21/27 MPG in the city and highway, while the T8 Polestar Engineered caps it with a 63 MPGe rating.
Safety Features
The XC60 comes with a host of safety features. These include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic windshield wipers, high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, and automatic rear braking.

Volvo moved from type-A to USB Type-C ports, and while a 10-speaker audio system is standard, the head-up display improves as you move up the trims.
