All the way back in April, we were telling you all about how the Volvo S60 Polestar was making its way to our friends in Australia. Oh yes, we were envious, but there was only so much that we could do about it here at Volvo of Burlingame. Well now that the Volvo V40 has finally been unveiled, our higher-ups here in the States are hoping to do something about it.
If you're at all unfamiliar with the V40, it's not your fault. Though it most certainly is a noteworthy new addition to Volvo's lineup, the powers that be decided not to sell it on US shores. A heartbreaker if there ever was one, and if only it had been homologated for the States, things may have played out differently.
But when Volvo's execs in the US heard about this, they decided to speak up and throw homologation to the wind. As for why they're putting their foot down on the matter, well, why wouldn't they?
"The V40 is a great small vehicle, and we would love to have it here," says Tassos Panas, head of marketing and product development at Volvo Cars of North America. "It is not currently in our plan but that does not stop me. I am constantly talking about making that a reality."1
And if all goes according to plan, there might come a day when the V40 rolls into our showroom. After all, it's movements like these that resulted in the upcoming arrival of the Volvo V60, a station wagon that was only sold across the pond for the past year.
So until we hear more, keep crossing your fingers. And if you'd like to tide yourself over with a good old-fashioned test drive at our dealership, our lineup awaits you here in Burlingame, CA. Can't let Europe have all the fun now, can we?
